Competitive Dance Overview 2026-2027
At Kids Etc Youth Movement Company, our Competitive Program is designed for dancers who are ready for a more focused, committed, and growth-oriented dance experience.
Our competitive dancers train in a supportive and motivating environment where they are challenged to strengthen their technique, performance quality, confidence, discipline, and teamwork. While competition is part of the journey, our focus is always bigger than awards. We are here to help dancers grow as artists, teammates, leaders, and people.
At KEYMC, we believe in Serious Fun: working hard, showing up with purpose, supporting one another, and loving the process along the way.
Participation
Placement in our Competitive Program is by invitation. Dancers are invited based on readiness, work ethic, attitude, commitment, class participation, and overall fit within the program.
If your dancer is interested in joining the Competitive Program but has not received an invitation, families are welcome to request an assessment with the Director. This allows us to determine the best possible placement and pathway for each dancer.
Commitment & Attendance
Competitive dance requires consistency. Attendance in all required classes is very important, as dancers rely on one another throughout the season.
Dancers are expected to attend their required classes regularly, including technique and ballet classes where applicable. Excessive absences, as determined by the teacher and Director, may impact a dancer’s ability to participate fully in the program.
We understand that dancers and families are busy, but commitment to the team is an important part of the competitive experience.
Expectations
Competitive dancers are expected to come to class prepared, focused, and ready to work. This includes arriving on time, following dress code expectations, practicing choreography, applying corrections, and maintaining a positive attitude in class and at events.
Parents and guardians play an important role as well. Supporting your dancer’s commitment, communication, attendance, and preparation helps create a successful season for everyone.
Code of Ethics
The heart of our Competitive Program is community. We are proud to have built a team environment where dancers are encouraged to work hard, cheer each other on, and celebrate growth in every form.
All competitive team members — dancers and families — are expected to represent KEYMC with:
- Kindness: Treat fellow dancers, teachers, volunteers, and families with patience, compassion, and respect.
- Integrity: Honour commitments, communicate honestly, and represent the studio in a positive way.
- Leadership: Lead by example through effort, encouragement, and teamwork.
- Responsibility: Follow studio policies, stay organized, and communicate concerns in a mature and respectful way.
- Character: Handle challenges with grace, avoid gossip or negativity, and contribute to a healthy team environment.
- Professionalism: Accept feedback, respect the art of dance, and represent KEYMC proudly both inside and outside the studio.
The KEYMC Difference
Our Competitive Program is about more than training dancers. It is about building confidence, resilience, friendships, discipline, and a love for movement that lasts far beyond the stage.
We are incredibly proud of the dancers, families, and faculty who make this program so special. Together, we continue to build the kind of community every dancer deserves to be part of.
