Competitive Dance Overview 2024-2025

Participation

To participate in our competitive programs, dancers must be invited. However, if a dancer is interested in joining but hasn’t received an invitation, they may request an assessment with the director.

Attendance

Attendance to all required classes is imperative. Dancers that miss an excessive number of classes, as determined by the teacher and director, may be asked to withdraw from the program. Dancers must attend their Technique and Ballet classes on a regular basis.

Team Levels

We have two levels of competition teams: Regular Competitive and Part-Time Competitive. Part-Time dancers are required to take fewer classes and compete at Pre-Competitive or Novice levels at competitions.

Class Requirements/Options

Typically, dancers will take at least their primary performance classes, as well as their required classes. However, It is highly recommended that dancers take classes in other disciplines in addition to the required classes as well including Hip Hop, Tap, Acro and Triple Threat. These disciplines will help to create the well-rounded dancer.

If your dancer is only interested in competing in a certain discipline such as Hip-Hop, Tap, or Triple Threat, this may be an option and must be discussed with the director prior to registration.

Competitions

Our 2023-2024 competition schedule will be confirmed by the beginning of October. Unless otherwise noted, all competitions are mandatory.

We will be attending 3 mandatory competitions. One in March, one in April and one in May.

There will also be an option for individual dancers or full teams to attend other competitions between March and May. These additional competition will NOT be mandatory.

We will also attend a solo/duet/trio competition and convention in October for dancers that are interested. Details will follow as the dates become available. This is NOT a mandatory event.

In addition to our regular competition season we may attend a Finals competition in June or early July. As the Finals competition occurs following our regular competition season it is not mandatory. More information will be available in the fall. Our goal is to have full teams attend.

Competition fees are not included in the tuition fees. Competition fees are approximately $75 per dancer for group dances, and $150 per dancer per solo, duet, or trio.

Workshop Classes

KEYMC has workshop classes for selected levels that are intended to offer an additional challenge for our dancers. Dancers are required to take the competitive class in the same discipline as the workshop class. Workshop auditions for the 2023-2024 season will be held throughout the KEYMC Summer Intensive. Dancers must be registered for the 2023-2024 season prior to the intensive in order to be considered for a workshop class.

Solos, Duets & Trios

Choreography fees are $400 per solo and $325 per person per duet/trio and are due to the assigned choreographer at or prior to your dancer’s first rehearsal. For this fee, dancers will receive 4 hours of individual rehearsal time for solos and 6 hours for duets and trios Following their allotted private time, dancers will attend group rehearsals with other dancers to continue rehearsing their solo/duet/trio. Additional private rehearsals can be arranged with the choreographer directly. During the regular dance season, solo, duet, and trio rehearsals will be scheduled based on the availability of the choreographer, as well as studio space.

Please note that the studio will be responsible for assigning choreographers, and all invitations for solos, duets, and trios will come through the director.
