We are thrilled to announce the expansion of our programming for the upcoming 2024-2025 season. We are delighted to welcome Coach Alex Di Curzio to our faculty, bringing her expertise in Acro Dance and Aerial Silks to our studio.

What is Aerial Silks?

Aerial Silks is a captivating and dynamic form of performance art that combines acrobatics, dance, and strength training. Participants climb, twist, and wrap themselves in long, flowing pieces of fabric suspended from the ceiling. It offers a unique opportunity to build strength, flexibility, and grace while defying gravity.

Beginner students will be introduced to basic hangs, knots, climbs, and a variety of skills and poses. Advanced students will focus on learning a variety of “footlock” poses, being able to climb to the top of the silks multiple times, aerial knot sequences and working up to simple inversions. Over the course of the session you will develop increased core and upper body strength and a solid foundation in aerial technique.

Why Choose Aerial Silks?

Aerial Silks provides an exciting and challenging workout that engages the entire body. Here are some reasons why you should consider joining our Aerial Silks program:

  1. Strength and Conditioning: Aerial Silks requires upper body and core strength, helping to tone muscles and improve overall fitness.
  2. Flexibility: The graceful movements and poses in Aerial Silks encourage flexibility and increased range of motion.
  3. Mind-Body Connection: Aerial Silks demands focus, concentration, and body awareness, fostering a strong mind-body connection.
  4. Creativity and Self-Expression: Aerial Silks allows individuals to explore their creativity and express themselves through movement.

About Coach Alex di Curzio

Alex has always had a passion to be active and move through space. As a young child she was a dancer and trained in many different styles. Alex was also a competitive gymnast. As she grew up, she discovered acro and aerial dance – a great combination for what she was looking for! She has been hooked ever since. Alex is level 1 certified with Acrobatic Arts and she has taught both acro and aerial for over 12 years. Her specialty apparatus is aerial silks and she still loves to fly through the sky and teach her students to have fun, express their creativity, all while also staying active in such a unique way! On top of being a dance instructor, she is also a school teacher in the Louis Riel School Division. She is so excited to bring these styles of dance to Kids Etc!
