At Kids Etc Youth Movement Company our faculty is a milieu of talented and caring people, each with the primary mandate of nourishing our dance students.
Kids Etc Youth Movement Company began in an elementary school auditorium with twelve students. Today Kids boasts over 1000 enrolments! Rheesa makes a point of personally knowing all the dancers enrolled at her school. Her background includes dance training at York University’s Faculty of Fine Arts in Toronto coupled with a Bachelor Of Commerce Honours Degree from the University of Manitoba. Rheesa is blessed to have such an incredible faculty of fun, reliable, and enthusiastic individuals many of whom are ‘home grown’. As a new chapter unfolds for Kids Etc Youth Movement Company, Rheesa is thrilled to begin her 39th year of teaching in our new home!
Taylor has been dancing at Kids Etc YMC almost since the day she was born! She has received many gold and gold honours awards at dance competitions over the years, and has been the recipient of dance scholarships from the Dance Manitoba, LADF, CNDC and many more. For three consecutive years, Taylor was chosen as a Hall of Fame All Star. In 2012 she choreographed a routine for Winnipeg’s WE Day celebrations and performed in front of thousands of people. Moreover, Taylor danced with the famous pop artist Vita Chambers on stage in a variety of Winnipeg venues. She continues to study jazz, tap, lyrical, modern, hip-hop, musical theatre and ballet. Taylor’s energetic approach to classes make it fun, not just for the dancers but for the parents as well.
Jessica began her training at Kids Etc before she was even two! She has studied ballet, jazz, tap, lyrical, modern, musical theatre and hip-hop. In 2009, Jessica competed in the World Dance Championships, and placed in the top 8 dancers for her lyrical and ballet solos. An inductee in the Hall of Fame Dance Challenge, Jessica was chosen four years in a row as an All Star. Additionally, in 2011 she completed her Intermediate Cecchetti ballet exam. Jessica is thrilled to share her passion and joy for dance with her students.
Miss Heather has been involved in children’s movement, dance and recreation programs for over 20 years through YMCA Canada and more recently here at Kids Etc YMC’s Youth Movement Company. She teaches our pre-school and early years dance programs, where dancers of all ages enjoy her creative choreography and individualized attention. Miss Heather is a YMCA certified fitness trainer and personal trainer who has presented instructor training throughout the Maritimes and here in Manitoba, as well as conducting a wide variety of fitness classes. Heather is also looking forward to teaching adult stretch and strength classes at Kids Etc YMC; incorporating into these classes, yoga, Pilates and stretching exercises.
Originally from Vancouver, Bonnie trained extensively in the performing arts there, with emphasis on Musical Theatre. She studied with musical director Merrick Norman in numerous productions which included lead roles in The Wizard of Oz, Oliver, Fiddler on the Roof, and Roar of the Greasepaint to name a few. Bonnie was part of an elite performance troupe that did a variety of unique shows including the rock opera, Maranatha which was recorded in B.C. She also performed for “Theatre Under The Stars” in the Shakespearian productions of Macbeth and Taming of the Shrew. Bonnie was part of the Kids Etc YMC Youth Movement Company faculty from 1992 through 1998 and is now out of retirement to join with the Kids Etc YMC team again. She loves teaming up with Rheesa and will tell you “Musical Theatre is the most fun you can have on stage and off!”
One of four original members of “B.O.S.S Dance Team”, Shaq went from dancer to one of the head choreographers. He is trained in Locking, Popping, and Breakdancing; New Style Choreography, House, New Jack Swing and is one of the few Animation Style dancers in Western Canada. He placed 1st in the Hip Hop Solo category at 5678 ShowTime dance competition and in 2012 was invited to perform at Dance World Cup. Primarily self-trained, Shaq is an up and comer in the Winnipeg Hip Hop dance community with a nearly unmatched drive and passion for Hip Hop. In the four years with his dance team, he has never missed a performance. Shaq is excited to take his talents into teaching the next generation the foundation and history of the art.
Tammy studied dance with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet and the School of Contemporary Dancers before heading east to study at the prestigious George Randolph Theatre in Toronto. She is a recipient of several gold medals in dance competitions and has choreographed many high scoring dance performances for competitions in Canada and the U.S. After teaching younger dancers for many years Tammy trained as a Pilates instructor and now works mainly with adult dancers. Tammy’s energy and passion for dance is evident in all of the classes that she teaches.
Ana began her dance training at Kids Etc YMC at the age of three. Since that time, she has studied ballet, jazz, tap, lyrical, modern, musical theatre and hip-hop. Ana has won numerous awards for her dance performances over the years and successfully completed many Cecchetti ballet exams. In 2012, Ana had the opportunity to dance on stage for Winnipeg’s WE Day celebrations, in front of thousands of people! Her strong technical training is enhanced by her emotional interpretation of music and grace. Ana is eager to share her love of dance with a new generation of dancers and is looking forward to teaching her students this year.
Madison has been part of the Kids Etc YMC Youth Movement Company competitive dance team for over 10 years! She has studied jazz, ballet, lyrical, tap, modern and hip-hop. Madison has competed successfully at both Regional and National competitions, as well as at the World Cup competition hosted by Canada in Niagara Falls! In 2012, Madison performed in front of thousands of people at the inspirational WE Day here in Winnipeg. In 2013, she performed with famous pop artist Vita Chambers for Pride downtown. Madison is excited to share her enthusiasm and her positive work ethic with her students!
Tiana has been part of the Kids Etc YMC’s family since age five. Since then, her love for dance has been unmistakable. She has trained in jazz, ballet, hip-hop, and lyrical. Tiana has received many gold and gold honours awards in competitions in Canada and the U.S.
Mackenzie began her dancing career at Kids Etc’s YMC at a very young age. She has studied jazz, tap, ballet, modern, lyrical and musical theatre. Mackenzie received many gold and gold honours awards at various regional and national competitions in the U.S. and Canada. Additionally, she is a scholarship recipient from the Manitoba Provincial Dance Festival, and in 2014 was the recipient of the Bricker Family Modern Scholarship at Kids Etc YMC. Mackenzie’s energy, enthusiasm, and sense of humor create a positive learning environment for her students!
Savane has trained extensively in ballet, jazz, lyrical, modern and hip hop. In addition to the many awards, both nationally and internationally for her performances, she has also completed several levels of Cecchetti Ballet exams. Savane is delighted to share her knowledge and passion for dance with all of her students.
Carol has been playing piano for ballet classes for over 25 years. She has worked at dance studios across Winnipeg including the Royal Winnipeg Ballet where she accompanied all types of classes and taught music in the teacher’s training program. Carol also gives private piano lessons and composes. In addition, she is an avid harpsichordist and has performed with MusickBarock Ensemble, Tafelmusik and the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra.
Born in Taipei, Taiwan, Gloria Chen started dancing at the age of 6, studying various dance forms including Ballet, Chinese Dance and Modern. Her studies continued at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, graduating from the Professional Division Teachers’ Course program in 1998. Gloria holds certificates in Intermediate, Advanced 1 and Advanced 2 Cecchetti and Associate and Associate Diploma Degree’s in teaching from the Cecchetti Society of Canada.
For the past 19 years, Gloria has been Principal dancer with Bolero Dance Theatre performing Flamenco, Spanish Folk, Classical Spanish and Bolero. As a member of the company, she has performed in the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestras’ Indigenous Festival Concert with the Winnipeg Contemporary Dancers as well as seven Winnipeg Fringe Festivals.
Alex took her first dance class when she was 3 years old and she’s loved dancing ever since! She has trained in tap, jazz, lyrical, modern, hip hop, ballet, pointe, musical theatre, and open. She started competing at age 11, and has participated in numerous competitions and conventions including Canadian National Dance Championships, Manitoba Provincial Dance Festival, Showbiz National Talent Competition, CanDance Competition, Jump Dance Convention, and Triple Threat Dance Convention, as well as various other smaller local competitions, conventions, and workshops. She joined the Kids Etc family in 2015, and she is extremely excited to share her dance knowledge and passion with the next generation of talented dancers in a welcoming, inclusive, and encouraging environment!
Ms Schroeder joined the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School’s Professional division at the age of 10.She had the joy of performing with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet Corps and in several Manitoba Opera Association productions over the years.
After moving to Morden with her husband and 3 children in 2001, Marilee began her teaching career at a small rural school which blossomed over the next 13 years. Ms Schroeder spent countless hours promoting arts and dance in several small southern Manitoba communities. In 2010/11 she had the pleasure of working at the Manitou Elementary school preparing young performers for the Manitou Chautauqua Festival through a Manitoba ArtSmart grant. With the desire to bring the best to her students, Ms Schroeder joined the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School Teacher Training Program in 2009. She was recipient of the Kally Kennedy Memorial Scholarship in 2010 and 2011. In 2011 she graduated from the program after successfully completing her Advance 1 Cecchetti examination and was awarded her Associate Diploma with the Cecchetti Society of Canada. Ms Schroeder also holds her Royal Academy of Dance teaching certification (RAD-RTS), Stott Pilate’s certification, Can-pro certificates in Resist-aBall training, and Maureen Rae’s fast track yoga levels one to three. Ms Schroeder obtained her Cecchetti Associate Diploma and currently holds her (ADCSC-CICB) designation with the Cecchetti Society of Canada.
Ms Schroeder and her family currently reside in Winnipeg and look forward to a new season of dance and fitness within the welcoming walls of Kids Etc.
Miss Claire joined Kids Etc Youth Movement Company’s dance family in 2014. With an extensive background in ballet, jazz, lyrical contemporary and musical theatre, Claire began our teacher training program. Miss D’Almeida has earned many Gold and Platinum awards in competitions both Nationally and Internationally. Miss Claire is excited to share her love for the arts with her students.
Arkadiy Isakov (Adik) brings 20+ years of experience as a Provincial and National Champion gymnast in both Sport Acrobatic Gymnastics and Mens Artistic Gymnastics. A former Soviet champion and master of Sport, Adik adds a depth of experience to our to our team.
Cat has been a part of the Kids Etc family since the age of two. She has loved studying jazz, lyrical, ballet, tap, hip-hop, modern, musical theatre and pointe. She has competed at both regional and national level competitions, including the IDO World Championships in Niagara Falls. She has also successfully completed many Cecchetti ballet exams. Part of her love for dance comes from the close connection it has to her family; she loves Kids Etc because it is where she grew up alongside her step-sisters, Jessica and Taylor, and their parents, Rheesa and Paul. Outside of teaching preschool dance classes, Cat is an early childhood educator, and is taking courses towards her ECEII degree. She is eager to continue to share her love for dance with her students, and looks forward to an incredible year with all of her students!
From dancing with friends to directing and choreographing for many teams, Richie has been through it all with his time in the art of dance. Richie is one of the 4 founders of Un1te Dance Company back in 2005, but is now the Executive Director as well as Co-artistic Director for Project Dance Company. He has choreographed and directed for many 1st place competitive teams. He choreographed and co-directed for the first team to ever hit the Hip Hop International stage back in San Diego as well as Dancers Paradise in Mexico. He has trained from many local, national, and international choreographers and has so much knowledge and wisdom to share. Richie is extremely excited to take everything he has learned throughout the years and spread the love and passion for dance to the next generation.
